Crypto

Staking

Lock an asset for a fixed term and earn rewards, with the maturity date and the reward shown up front.

Like a term deposit for your crypto: a fixed term, a known reward, and your assets back at maturity.

While staked, the asset is locked and shown separately in your wallet. At maturity the asset and the reward are released back to your balance. The reward is paid in the same asset, so its AUD value moves with the market like the rest of your crypto.

How it works

  1. Log in to online banking and open Staking.
  2. Choose the asset and the term. The reward rate and the maturity date are shown.
  3. Enter the amount you want to stake.
  4. Confirm with your authenticator code. The stake shows as Locked in your wallet until maturity.
  5. At maturity the asset and the reward are released to your balance and you receive a notification.

Crypto is not a deposit

Crypto is not a deposit. Values can fall as well as rise, and you may get back less than you put in. Crypto assets are not covered by the Financial Claims Scheme. Digital currency exchange services are provided by a digital currency exchange provider registered with AUSTRAC. Nothing on this page is financial advice.

Frequently asked questions

Can I unstake early?

No. Staking is a fixed term, and the asset is locked until the maturity date shown when you confirmed. If you may need the asset sooner, keep it in the wallet instead.

Is the reward guaranteed?

The reward rate for the term is fixed when you stake. The AUD value of the reward, like the asset itself, moves with the market.

How is this different from a term deposit?

A term deposit is AUD, earns interest, and is an eligible deposit under the Financial Claims Scheme. A stake is crypto, earns a reward in that crypto, and is not covered by the scheme.
